MINOR ILLNESSES CAN BE TREATED by a COMMUNITY PHARMACIST

It is not always necessary for you to try to get a GPs appointment if you need medical treatment. The NHS Minor Ailment Service allows certain people to obtain treatment for some conditions free of charge from a community pharmacy.

Patients can qualify if they:

·        Are under 16, or under 19 and in full-time education

·        Over 60

·        Have a valid exemption certificate (maternity, medical or war pension certificate)

·        Receive benefits that used to entitle a patient to free prescriptions.

·        Are named on, or entitled to NHS tax credit exemption certificate or a valid HC2 certificate

What can be treated by the community pharmacist?

Acne, Athlete’s foot, Backache, Cold sores, Constipation, Cough, Diarrhoea, Earache, Eczema and allergies, Haemorrhoids, Hay fever, Headache, Head lice, Indigestion, Mouth ulcers, Nasal congestion, Pain, Period pain. Thrush, Sore Throat, Threadworms, Warts and verrucae

We have also included a few leaflets to help with self care for dealing with minor medical problems, and also a leaflet for parents in assessing and caring for your baby when they are not well.
